Master Data Features
The defined features can be assigned to the master data and actual values can be assigned.
Currently, it is possible to create features for Items, Item Variants, Manufacturing Specification, Development Recipes, Routings, Production BOMs, Work Center and Machine Center. A distinction can be made between header and line features.
Note
If the feature is assigned to master data or a document it is not possible to delete it.
For example, master data features for items can be accessed from the Item Card by clicking on Features. The features available here can be added in various ways:
- Features can be added manually.
- Features can be added automatically by selecting a Feature Group Code (see Feature Group). Therefor open the master data card (for example Item Card) and open the linked master data feature table. Vie function Select Feature Group the features can be added.
- Features can be added through inheritance (e.g. from the item to the manufacturing specification line).

In master data features it is only possible to edit the fields Target Value, Lower Tolerance Limit, Upper Tolerance Limit, Calculation Formula and Document Feature. All other fields are not editable and can be modified via Feature Card.
If the feature has the Data Type Picture, the Target Value (Picture) FactBox is shown. The picture is transferred from the Feature Card when the feature is assigned and can then be changed for the specific master data via the actions Take, Import and Delete. Each master data feature holds its own copy of the picture — a change at the feature does not affect master data features that are already assigned. For more information, see Feature.
In addition, you can store an individual picture for each master data feature via the Picture FactBox. This FactBox shows the additional picture, not the feature value. The picture from the feature is not transferred automatically; it is maintained directly at the master data feature.
Note
If the corresponding master data card (for example the manufacturing specification) is certifiedor locked, the picture can no longer be changed.
Features for Item Variants
Item variants can have their own master data features, which are maintained independently of the features of the item. This allows you to map properties in which the variants of an item differ (for example fill size, concentration or packaging type).
You can open the features of a variant from the Item Variants page or from the Item Variant Card via the Features action. As on the Item Card, you can add features manually or via the Select Feature Group function. The Item Variant Features FactBox shows the features of the selected variant.
If a variant is created for an item that already has master data features, these features are transferred once to the new variant and can be adjusted there.
Note
Features that are added to the item after the variant has been created are not transferred to existing variants. Conversely, changes to the variant features do not affect the item.
If an item variant or the item is deleted, the related variant features are deleted as well. If the item or the variant is renamed, the features are retained.
