    Free Pick

With Free Pick, pickers can override the lots and bins suggested by the system according to FEFO/FIFO while executing the pick in the Yaveon 365 Warehouse Scanning. Instead of following a fixed suggestion, the picker decides at the time of the take which inventory is used.

Free Pick is primarily suited for locations with large block bins that typically store more than one lot, or for flow racks where the retrieval sequence does not necessarily need to match the replenishment sequence. For locations with shelving positions, Free Pick is generally not required; processing according to FEFO/FIFO is recommended there.

    Note

Free Pick is supported for picks with warehouse shipment. Locations with and without Directed Put-away and Pick are supported. Inventory picks (without warehouse shipment) and items with serial numbers are not part of the feature scope.

    Setup

The setup is done on the Location in the info register WMS - Warehouse Shipment/Pick:

    Field Description
Free Pick Enables Free Pick for the location. When the field is enabled, the fields Change Lot and Change Bin are enabled automatically; when it is disabled, both fields are disabled automatically.
Change Lot The lot can be chosen freely during picking. No lot is suggested in the pick lines. The field can only be edited if Free Pick is enabled.
Change Bin The take bin can be chosen freely during picking. No bin is suggested in the pick lines. The field can only be edited if Free Pick is enabled.

The field Free Pick can only be enabled if the location is set up as follows:

    • Bin Mandatory enabled
    • Require Shipment enabled
    • Require Pick enabled
    • Replenish automatically = No
    Note

While Free Pick is enabled, the field Replenish automatically cannot be set to a value other than No.

If Free Pick is not enabled, the existing logic applies and the suggestions in the pick lines must be followed.

    Creating the Pick

When the pick is created, the Free Pick settings of the location are taken into account. Depending on the setup, the available inventory is aggregated, which reduces the number of pick lines created. In the simplest case (Change Lot and Change Bin enabled, no lot specified) exactly one pick line pair is created per warehouse shipment line.

    Change Lot Change Bin Behavior
Yes No The take bin is determined according to FEFO/FIFO and is binding; the lot can be chosen freely.
No Yes The lot is determined according to FEFO/FIFO and is binding; the take bin can be chosen freely.
Yes Yes Only the item and the required quantity are specified. Lot and bin are assigned only during picking.

The following applies to the aggregation:

    • A load carrier number is never suggested in Free Pick lines. The load carrier is assigned only during the take on the scanner.
    • The Expiration Date and Date of Entry of the aggregated line are set to the oldest date of the aggregated inventory.
    • Inventory that does not comply with the configured rules is excluded from the aggregation. If a lot that violates the rules is chosen during the take, an error message is displayed.
    • The available quantity is reduced by quantities that are already assigned to other open pick lines.

The fields Free Pick, Change Lot, and Change Bin are transferred to the pick lines and remain traceable in the registered pick lines.

    Predefined Lots from Item Tracking

If a lot is specified in the source document via the item tracking lines, this lot remains binding even if Change Lot is enabled. The lot is fixed at the quantity entered and reduces the availability of that lot for other documents. If only a partial quantity of the warehouse shipment line is specified via item tracking, at least two pick line pairs are created: one with and one without a lot specification.

    Inventory Specification

If inventory is firmly assigned via the Pick Order, that inventory remains fixed to the document as before; an exchange is not possible regardless of the Free Pick settings. The Inventory Specification is not supported for aggregated Free Pick lines.

    Processing on the Scanner

The take is executed in the Yaveon 365 Warehouse Scanning. The process on the mobile device is described in the chapter Free Pick.
