    Feature Types

Feature Types define how a feature is used. Feature Types can be freely defined and assigned to the individual features using the lookup in the field Feature Type Code on the feature card for the individual features.

    Feature Type

    To define a feature type:

    1. Assign a Code that helps to clearly assign the feature type.

    2. In addition, a Description can be added for the feature type.

    3. The feature type also defines in which areas features should be used.

      • Production: If this indicator is set, features with this feature type are transferred to the production. The master data features of the item are inherited to the manufacturing specification and can be used there for the feature value calculation.

      • Quality Assurance: If this indicator is set, features with this feature type can be used in the quality assurance. Further information can be found in the chapters of the quality assurance Inspection Features.

      • Research + Development: If this indicator is set, features with this feature type are transferred to the Research + Development area. The master data features of the item are inherited to the R+D recipe and can be used there for the feature value calculation (see chapter Feature Management in the R+D Recipe)

If the feature type is already used for a feature and the settings (production or quality control) are changed, the settings of the feature are automatically updated by the system.
