Sales Tax on Corporate Design Documents

In countries that use Sales Tax instead of VAT — for example the USA and Canada — the tax wording on a business document differs from the European VAT terminology. Yaveon 365 Process Base recognizes a Sales Tax company automatically and prints the labels of the document total with Sales Tax wording instead of VAT wording.

    Note

No additional setup is required. The decision is made once per print run and is based on whether the Sales Tax application area is enabled in the company. The application area belongs to the Dynamics 365 Business Central BC localization and is usually enabled in the North American versions.

    Labels in the Document Total

When the Sales Tax application area is enabled, the following Field Labels are used in the document total instead of their VAT counterparts. All labels are language-dependent and can be adjusted in the CD Labels table like any other label.

Printed value VAT company Sales Tax company
Total without tax Total excl. VAT — Total %1 excl. VAT Total excl. Tax — Total %1 excl. Tax
Total with tax Total incl. VAT — Total %1 incl. VAT Total incl. Tax — Total %1 incl. Tax
Cash discount share of the tax VAT Discount Amount — Payment Discount on VAT Tax Discount Amount — Payment Discount on Tax
Document total less cash discount Discounted Amount incl. VAT — Discounted Amount incl. VAT Discounted Amount incl. Tax — Discounted Amount incl. Tax
Tax line with amount 0.00 VAT Zero — VAT 0% Tax Zero — Tax 0%

The placeholder %1 in the total labels represents the currency code of the document.

    Sums per Tax Rate

The Print VAT Details option in the Specification Section of the general setup controls how the tax is broken down below the document total. When the option includes Sums for VAT Rates, one line per tax rate is printed:

Company Label of the rate line
VAT company The VAT Identifier of the rate, e.g. VAT19.
Sales Tax company The tax rate itself, e.g. 8.25 %.

A VAT Identifier is not maintained in Sales Tax setups, which is why the rate is printed instead. This keeps the breakdown readable when several tax rates apply to one document.

    Tax Calculation on the Documents

The tax of a document line is calculated using the Tax Area Code of that line. If the line does not carry a Tax Area Code, the Tax Area Code of the document header is used instead.

This applies to the open documents as well as to the following posted documents:

    • Sales Invoice
    • Sales Credit Memo
    • Purchase Invoice
    • Purchase Credit Memo
    Important

On the Reminder and the Finance Charge Memo the Tax Area Code is not evaluated, because these documents do not provide this information. In a Sales Tax company their tax block is therefore calculated with the Tax Area Code of the document header only.
